In commemoration of the 150th anniversary of this great prayer movement, noted sculptor Lincoln Fox was commissioned to create a life-size likeness of Jeremiah Lanphier. His piece, Invitation to Prayer, depicts Lanphier seated on a park bench, warmly welcoming a passerby to join him for a moment of quiet reflection or a word of prayer – just as he invited others 150 years ago. Although God used Lanphier in profound ways, he was a man of simple faith and obedience. This sculpture wonderfully captures the spirit of this faithful man of God.
